Philanthropy

Giving is not just about a financial donation and good PR for WGP; it is a community service and our way of giving back to society and causes that mean a lot to us. With our philanthropy partners and the campaigns we support, we realise our personal and corporate social responsibility in a meaningful way and our clients can feel good about working with us.

We support a number of causes close to our heart with our philanthropy, based on the firm belief that everyone in society deserves the opportunity to forge a life with self-respect and dignity. That may from time to time require a helping hand, which we are privileged to be able to give with the ultimate aim of giving hope and self-respect. If our philanthropy captures your imagination, why not get involved alongside us. We look forward to our friends’ and clients’ continued contribution to our fund-raising and volunteering efforts.

Our partnership with the children’s charity CHICKS reflects our shared passion to create a better life for children who suffer hardship, abuse and neglect.

CHICKS’ vision is to give every disadvantaged child the opportunity to feel valued and WGP is committed to helping them realise this goal.

Shortlisted for Charity of the Year in the JustGiving Awards 2011, CHICKS provides free, week long respite country-breaks for disadvanted children at their holiday centres, with the aim to help them realise there can be a better future. A future in which they are respected, loved and valued – taking with them happy memories which will always be there to strengthen them when times are hard. The children we support come from a variety of backgrounds – those living in poverty, children that are being neglected or abused, children who have lost parents or even children who are full time young carers.

CHICKS supporters are called ‘Memory Makers’ and as such Memory Makers, we are always very moved when we read the heartfelt thank you letters to us and updates from the children after their break. Last Christmas we gave eight vulnerable children happy memories with a very special Christmas break at the CHICKS retreat in Cornwall. The breaks gave these children the magical Christmas every child deserves full of festive fun, games, presents, food and friends. The children, from disadvantaged backgrounds including children suffering from abuse, living in poverty or caring for sick or disabled relatives, were provided with an unforgettable week long stay over Christmas.

Our partnership with CHICKS is the most rewarding Act of Kindness we support with sponsorship, fund-raising and volunteering. Take a look also at the campaign we are sponsoring with CHICKS and Barking Rugby FC, combining the core values of Rugby, Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment and Discipline, with WGP’s and CHICKS vision to give every disadvantaged child the opportunity to feel valued.

WGP’s Making Memories – Giving Hope campaign combines our sponsorship of Barking Rugby FC and philanthropy partnership with CHICKS.

Barking RFC’s efforts to support disadvantaged children from their local community with literacy and other mentoring programmes impressed us. We soon saw the shared spirit of Barking RFC’s local community efforts and CHICKS’s vision to give every disadvantaged child the opportunity to feel valued.

This is why WGP initiated and now sponsors a very special philanthropy campaign with Barking RFC and CHICKS charity. The purpose is to provide disadvantaged children from Barking & Dagenham not only with the opportunity of enjoying memorable CHICKS breaks, but also coaching and mentoring support from Barking RFC’s players and famous alumni. This provides continuity and after-care support from Barking RFC, making sure the happy memories and hope these children were given on their CHICKS break will only be the beginning of a better life for them.

WGP sponsor the Barking RFC’s 7s team in support of CHICKS charity, and together we will be raising funds throughout the season. We hope you join us in supporting the WGP Barking RFC 7s team, so they win many matches for us and we can raise lots of funds for CHICKS. This means more disadvantaged children from Barking & Dagenham will be able to enjoy a well-deserved CHICKS break and on-going motivation and support in Barking RFC’s local community programmes.

Keep checking in with us as we post news and updates from our campaign and match reports from Barking RFC 7s team fixtures throughout the season. This includes the famous London Beach Rugby event on 1st & 2nd of August and the Bournemouth 7s Beach Rugby Tournament across the August Bank Holiday.

Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people, dedicated to ending the cycle of homelessness and help changing people’s life for the better.

With this philanthropy partner, we know that for every £1 we give, society saves £4.55. As Corporate Finance Advisers, we know about return on investment and smart investing, so we think this is pretty amazing.
Our partnership with Crisis is particularly important to us at Christmas when they provide much needed support and shelter in their Christmas Centres with:

  • three nutritious, hot meals including Christmas dinner
  • welcoming support from people who really care
  • the chance to shower and change clothes
  • a haircut, health check and expert advice on life-changing issues like housing and employment
  • shelter, warmth and safety
  • an introduction to Crisis year-round support and safety network

For every play of our 2013 Christmas e-card we pledged £10 to the Crisis at Christmas Appeal, raising a total of £7,000 and with a social value of £31,850. We thank our clients and supporters for helping us give back to society so generously, and thank our corporate responsibility partner Crisis for their year-round tireless work to help end homelessness!
