Sport 10 and WGP Global collaborate to promote rights of Brazilian soccer legend Pelé
Sport 10 and WGP Global announced today that they have formalised a collaboration agreement to develop and expand the commercial rights of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, ‘Pelé’. Sport 10 has appointed WGP Global to orchestrate the promotion of the rights in key territories including Asia, Russia, GCC and Australasia.
In a world of seven billion people where football is the foremost sport, Pelé stands as the most iconic figure in the ‘beautiful game’. Named ‘Football Player of the Century’ by FIFA, Pelé’s extraordinary career saw him spend nearly two decades at his boyhood club, Santos, lift three world cups for Brazil and become the all-time leading scorer in the history of the sport, a record unlikely to ever be broken. Having retired from the game in 1977, Pelé maintains his commitment to sport and to society by fulfilling various roles as a spokesperson, ambassador and philanthropist.
‘WGP Global is well- known for its knowledge and understanding of intellectual property rights and for its great client relationships.’, said Paul Kemsley, Founder and CEO of Sport 10. ‘With many rights’ management agencies in this space, we wanted to work with a group aligned with our own high professional standards coupled with strong technical ,legal and commercial expertise as well as an exceptional international network of connections, including major brands. It is a huge responsibility to promote the image and the rights of a client of Pelé’s legendary status and we are confident that with us and WGP Global he could not be in safer hands.’.
‘We are delighted to have been appointed by Sport 10 to work alongside them in exploiting a brand as globally recognised and prestigious as Pelé.’ said David Orchard, President and General Counsel of WGP Global. ‘Paul Kemsley and his team have built a great reputation for looking after the rights of heritage artistes and sports personalities. We feel privileged to have been given the opportunity of working with them. With WGP’s strong international network of offices and relationships and our in-depth knowledge of the business of sport we are putting in place an outstanding platform to represent the global elite.’.
